so you got your lab results… now what?

You paid for your lab testing. You get your results back. You see the numbers. Maybe some are flagged as high or low. You stare at the screen for a minute, trying to make sense of what it all means.

And then what?

This is where most people get stuck. They have the data. They can see something is off. But they have no idea what to actually do about it.

Information without action is just noise. Those numbers on a piece of paper don't mean anything unless you know what to do with them.

I see this constantly in my practice. Clients come to me with comprehensive lab work from companies like Function Health (which is fantastic, by the way! So much info!). These testing platforms are giving people access to detailed health data like never before. But having data and having a plan are two completely different things.

You deserve so much more than just numbers on a page. You deserve interpretation, guidance, and a personalized action plan.

the problem with standard lab interpretation

More people than ever are taking charge of their health by getting comprehensive lab work done. This is exciting and empowering. But the gap between testing and transformation is where most people get stuck.

Your labs are telling you a story about what's happening inside your body. But if you don't know how to read that story, or what to do about it, then all you have is a stack of papers and a growing sense of anxiety.

Maybe your conventional doctor glanced at your results, told you everything looks "normal," but you still feel terrible. Or maybe they flagged something as high or low but didn't give you a clear path forward beyond "watch and wait" or "here's a prescription."

I always emphasize that "normal" lab ranges are based on the average American population. And you and I both know that the average person in the United States is not a picture of ideal health.

When I interpret labs, I hold you to a much narrower reference range. I'm not looking for average... I'm looking for excellent. Your labs might look "fine" by conventional standards, but actually be quite off when we're aiming for true vitality and longevity.

For example, conventional medicine might say your vitamin D is adequate at 30 ng/ml. But for optimal immune function, mood, and longevity? I want to see you between 70-90 ng/ml. That's a huge difference. And it's the difference between just getting by and actually thriving.

This is why interpretation matters so much. The numbers alone don't tell you whether you're optimized for health and longevity. You need someone who understands what optimal looks like, not just what's average.

biological age testing

For those of you who've been with me for some time, this concept will sound familiar but it's worth revisiting because it's one of the most powerful ideas in longevity medicine: the difference between your chronological age and your biological age.

Your chronological age is simple. It's the number of candles on your birthday cake. We can't do anything to change this.

But your biological age? That measures how well your body is actually functioning compared to population averages. Think of chronological age as time spent, and biological age as the actual wear and tear on your body.

You can have two people who are both 50 years old chronologically, but one of them has the body of a 40-year-old while the other has the body of a 60-year-old. That 20-year difference comes down to lifestyle choices, environment, and how their genes are being expressed.

Biological Age Testing uses straightforward bloodwork:

  • CBC (complete blood count)

  • CMP (comprehensive metabolic panel)

  • hs-CRP (high-sensitivity C-reactive protein)

These 3 labs are plugged into a calculation to determine how your body is actually aging. It's much more accessible than expensive telomere testing (which can be $400) and gives you actionable data you can track over time.

The real power comes from monitoring this metric as you make changes. Are your interventions working? Are you aging slower than your chronological years would suggest? Are you actually reversing biological age? This is what longevity medicine is all about! Not just living longer, but staying vital, healthy, energized, vibrant!

speciality testing that goes deeper

Beyond basic bloodwork, there are specialty tests that can reveal the root causes of chronic symptoms and accelerated aging:

GI-MAP: Gut Microbiome Testing gives you a comprehensive look at what's really happening with your digestion, inflammation, and the microbiome through advanced stool testing. This is often the missing piece for chronic digestive issues, unexplained fatigue, skin problems, and more.

DUTCH Complete: Hormone Testing goes far beyond basic hormone panels to give you a comprehensive look at sex hormones, your daily cortisol rhythm, and metabolic pathways. This reveals how your body is handling stress and aging, and is essential for understanding energy, sleep, mood, and metabolic health.

3X4 DNA Blueprint: DNA Testing shows you how your unique genetic makeup influences your response to food, stress, and toxins. Your genes aren't your destiny, but they do provide personalized insights that take the guesswork out of health decisions.

Environmental Toxin Testing identifies which specific toxins are affecting you - whether that's mold toxins, heavy metals, or chemicals from everyday products. Knowing your exposures allows for targeted detoxification instead of guessing.

the integration piece

These tests don't work in isolation. They tell a complete story when interpreted together. For example, imagine you have elevated inflammation markers on your bloodwork, poor sleep quality showing up on your wearable device, and microbiome imbalance on your GI-MAP. Now we're not just seeing random symtpoms, we have a clear picture and a path forward.

This is precision longevity medicine. It's personalized, targeted, and effective.

The conventional medical system is designed to react to illness. My practice is designed to prevent it. We're taking your current health status and systematically improving it - not waiting until something goes wrong to take action.

what working together looks like

My role is interpreting your results, connecting the dots between different data points, and creating a personalized action plan that's specific to your body and your goals.

Your labs inform the interventions for future investigation. This can be nutrition changes, targeted protocols, lifestyle modifications, mindfulness practices, and more. We test, implement changes, retest to see what's working, and refine our approach.

This is an ongoing partnership. It's not about perfection. It's about progress and giving you the tools to truly optimize your health... and, of course, having some fun along the way. There's genuine joy in understanding your body, seeing your metrics improve, and feeling the difference in your energy and vitality.
